Each of the pages gives a guide to the visibility of the Moon, planets and to solar system events during the month.
Details given on this site mostly apply to the Southern Hemisphere, especially for places with a similar latitude to New Zealand.

A summary of the visibility, geocentric phenomena and mutual conjunctions of the planets during the year are in planets in 2011 and planets in 2012.

Diagrams of the relative apparent sizes of the planets are in 2011 and 2012. These show how the sizes of the planets as seen from the Earth compare and how they vary during the year.

Diagrams for the 2011 orbits and 2012 orbitsshow the positions of the planets in their orbits round the Sun.

A summary of the visibility of the planets throughout the year, and times of rising and setting of the Sun, Moon and planets throughout the year can also be found on the LINZ astronomical information web pages as PDF files.
