Hawera Astronomical Society
We meet at the King Edward Park Observatory, High St, with access through Stan Lay Drive off Camberwell Road (next to the High School). In the dome is a fixed 5" Cooke refractor made in 1905 and the Society also owns portable 8" Celestron and 6" Dobsonian telescopes for use outside. Downstairs is a meeting/lecture room, with a computer displaying real-time Starry Night software, and a TV/video for showing astronomy-related tapes.
We welcome people of all ages, although we ask that adults accompany those who are 14 years and younger. Special times may be arranged for interested groups from schools and other organisations. We generally hold two major events each year.
Meetings: 7:30pm (April-September) or 8:30pm (October-March), second Wednesday of the month.
