The Dark Sky Promotion Fund was set up from the RASNZ’s 50% share of the surplus generated from the 2024 Starlight Conference co-hosted by RASNZ and Aoraki Mackenzie International Dark Sky Reserve Board. The purpose of the Fund is to continue to use the surplus towards the goal of the 2024 Starlight Conference i.e. to help protect the dark skies in New Zealand to facilitate its journey to become a dark sky nation.
Applications may be made for any projects or ventures which promote the progress of protection of dark skies in New Zealand. Grants are not restricted to members of the RASNZ, but where there is competition for limited funds membership of the RASNZ may be an advantage for the applicant.
An Advisory Committee appointed by the RASNZ Council will review the applications and make recommendations to the RASNZ Council who have the final say as to whether a grant is made. The Advisory Committee is also responsible for the administration of the Fund.
